ROSIE CARTER AND JAMIE KAROLICH

Rosie Carter and Jamie Karolich were artists in residence at the Mancos Common Press in spring 2021.  Coming out of the isolation of the prior pandemic year, they felt a strong pull towards including the community in a project.  Their brainchild, The Knowledge Print Project, was an artist-community printmaking collaboration. Centered around letterpress printing and making use of the downtown location of the Press, Jamie and Rosie collected bits of community knowledge via a “Deposit Box” located outside of the Press. Over 100 slips of knowledge were submitted.  The artists spent the rest of their AIR turning these gems of community knowledge into letterpress prints.  Every day a new print was made available to the community for free in the converted newspaper box stationed outside the Press.  The Knowledge Print Project took the knowledge held by community members and distributed it at large, sharing the wisdom and wit that reflects the collective core of the place and the people who call it home.

For the 2019 spring semester we are working with the Mancos RE-6 School district art classes serving 150 3rd-5th grade students, 30 6-8th grade students and 15 senior arts honor students. There is no charge for the school classes.
