Participates using creative pressures, will translate their artistic imagery into dynamic mark-making, stenciling and the inking blends of monotypes within this two-day inventive printmaking workshop. Students will combine elements of exploratory and experimental printmaking, as monotypes and/or collographs, with creative textures of bas-reliefs to a mixed media/chine colle. The layers of printmaking, drawing, cut paper, and other collage materials used to produce complex and compelling imagery.

Creative Creative Pressures Monotype Workshop
Two Days – Saturday & Sunday, June 8 & 9, 9am – 3pm

In the new Mancos Commons Studio


Participants using creative pressures, will translate their artistic imagery into dynamic mark-making, stenciling and the inking blends of monotypes within this two-day inventive printmaking workshop. Students will combine elements of exploratory and experimental printmaking, as each one can incorporate found pieces of flat metal as starting points in making monotypes. 

Experiment with flattened pieces of small metal & plastics (watch gears, aluminum foils, thin wire, etc.).  Prints will be created as monotypes and/or collographs, with creative textures of bas-reliefs to a mixed media/chine colle. The layers of printmaking, drawing, cut paper, and other collage materials used to produce complex and compelling imagery. Students gain knowledge of the fundamentals of creative pressures through various pressure on the printmaking press. Lino-carving, registration, inking, etc.—and various collage applications to produce a multilayered surface.

DESCRIPTION:

  • This workshop will be held in the new Mancos Commons print studio
  • No experience necessary / Ages 16 and up
  • Class size: limited to 8 students – minimum class size 6
  • All materials provided
  • Students bring a lunch (or buy food in town during break)

INSTRUCTOR:

Deborah Jojola is an artist and printmaker.  In her work, she explores the unique position held by Pueblo women artists as essential keepers of tradition and cultural identity, while taking a leading role in sharing this living culture with the world outside the Pueblo. Utilizing centuries-old art forms, symbols of the past, creating symbolic imagery for the future. It carries a dialogue of history /resilience, and understanding of the environmental relationship that embraces all life.
